Guardians of Eternity Book 1: Rogar of Hamun
Excerpt One
Rogar utilized Chavva's desire to pretend this was an epic event of joy. He faked a polite smile. "Drink I will - after I present you with a wedding gift."
Chavva's sapphire angel eyes rounded, her scent growing sweet with hope.
Rogar fought to keep his mind blank. He didn't want her to read his true intent. "I must retrieve it, though."
Chavva eyed him warily. "A gift; a wedding gift?"
"Yes." Rogar stood. He could do this. Sometimes rescuing someone required underhanded tactics.
Armor plating clinked behind Rogar. He stalled and shot a sideways glare at Finn. "You will not follow," he murmured his demand.
Finn assumed a readiness stance.
Rogar descended the first few steps down to the main lawn.
"Husband?" Chavva asked guardedly.
Focusing on keeping his mind blank of his intent, Rogar glanced at her over his shoulder. "Have you no patience, wife?" he said the revolting term with a well-faked tone of love.
She relaxed, her smile serene. "I have patience, my love."
As soon as his back was turned to her, Rogar surged with a bloodlust he'd never felt before. Chavva's desire for him was her weakness. She wanted the fantasy so much she was willing to turn a blind eye to the truth. He'd gained an advantage for once. Icy hot energy whipping inside him, he stepped onto the soft moss turf.
Relgans wearing tight frozen smiles shuffled out of his path in slow motion as if moving fast might gain his attention.
The anguish on Elesa's face changed to a pained hope as she watched him come.
She still cared for him after he'd just married Chavva? If only destiny could have been different for them...
Rogar passed by Elesa exactly two and a half strides before he whirled around and seized his mark. He jammed his claws into Sigron's belly.
The mortal's chakra gave slight resistance as he punctured it.
He ripped hard and deep in each direction until Sigron was rent in half. Before the ethereal parts of the Relgan reached the ground, he took extra swipes for good measure to slice what remained into smaller pieces.
Chavva stood. A low angel moan quickly turned into a screech of disbelieving anger. Betrayal glittered in her eyes. "This is your gift, husband?"
A malevolent growl that never seemed to end vibrated in Rogar's chest. "Wish I did to equal the one you gave to me," he snarled. "Do you not like it? You said you wanted your children to experience the death of a sibling. Surely it cannot matter if it's this one that dies," he said, gesturing at the gore of Sigron's ethereal remains, "instead of this one." He gestured at Elesa. "Your goal is met, isn't it? One child is gone, and the rest are shocked and afraid."
The angry set to Chavva's face melted down to a pained look of disbelief. "Do you know the price for murder?"
Rogar put on the callous act of his lives. "Enter to record the slaughter was premeditated, too."
